This sixth edition of Science and Technology in Action contains fifteen more lessons, bringing the total to one hundred and three. They illustrate the practical application science and technology in real-life situations and link the teaching of science and technology subjects with the work of a leading research or manufacturing enterprises based in Ireland.

fifth edition folder
The resource is published in an attractive full colour ring binder and the accompanying CDROM contains all the lessons and resource material in printable form. This multi-media resource has been supplied to all second level schools in the country and it should prove particularly useful to science teachers. The printed and online resources can also form the basis for a valuable transition year science programme.

Managing Ireland’s Waste
Managing Ireland’s WasteWhat Do We Do With Waste?
Clearly, there are environmental and health reasons why we cannot allow large volumes of waste to accumulate. Modern waste management offers a number of approaches, frequently called the waste hierarchy which can be summed up as follows:
  • Prevent: waste should be prevented where possible.
  • Reduce: waste or products should be reused at source.
  • Reuse/Recycle: where possible waste should be recycled or reprocessed.
  • Recovery: energy may be recovered from waste that cannot be recycled.
  • Disposal: this should be the last resort.
